This particular bed was made with hemp twine, which the cats absolutely adore! They seem to prefer it to beds made out of various yarns. However, heavyweight hemp can get pricey and is also rough on the fingers. Bear that in mind should you make such an attempt, though the reward is seeing your cats curled up inside of it!
The idea came from the Waistcoat Basket pattern on All About Ami. We basically followed the pattern, except we made it bigger.
After Round 5, we added more rounds. If you aren’t sure how to add rounds in pattern, check this out.
The pattern reads:
R2: Ch 2. *Inc*, rep 10 times. Sl st to first hdc (20 sts). [Inc means to work *2 hdc in next st*]
R3: Ch 2. *Hdc 1, Inc*, rep 10 times. Sl st to first hdc (30 sts).
R4: Ch 2, *Hdc 2, Inc*, rep 10 times. Sl st to first hdc (40 sts).
R5: Ch 2. *Hdc 3, Inc*, rep 10 times. Sl st to first hdc (50 sts).
To continue with this “formula,” the next few rounds look like:
R6: Ch 2. *Hdc 4, Inc*, rep 10 times. Sl st to first hdc (60 sts).R7: Ch 2. *Hdc 5, Inc*, rep 10 times. Sl st to first hdc (70 sts).
R8: Ch 2. *Hdc 6, Inc*, rep 10 times. Sl st to first hdc (80 sts).
And so on...
Do you see it? For each additional round, simply add 1 Hdc to the formula, and each round should increase by 10 stitches.
Once the diameter measured 14 inches, we followed the pattern from Round 6 onward but with a different total stitch count.
Materials:
